/To achieve an equitable, intersectional, and inclusive foreign policy workforce, Women in Foreign Policy remains committed to supporting women and marginalised genders from all walks of life.
Women in Foreign Policy is proud of its commitment to these values and excited to launch the work of the newly recruited Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) team within the organisation. Say hello to Tejal Jesrani, Venessa Hanson, Clara Diamond, Angela Muruli, and Dara Dillon! These five women come to WiFP from various careers, with a shared priority to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive space for young professionals entering the foreign policy workforce.
In close coordination with other WiFP teams, we are working closely at DEI issues -- both in-house and external -- and provide consistent data and analysis on gaps in our inclusion efforts of volunteers, contributors and professionals featured. How are we expected to enter a foreign policy workforce that doesn’t represent all of us? We hope to continue to grow our global audience, include representative role models, and host safe and inclusive discussions on race and ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ableism, class, as well as current events and legislation. We believe in starting new tables that include women and other marginalised genders from the get go.
As one of its first public facing efforts, the DEI team is proud to launch the organization’s third Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion report.
This report includes data on race and ethnicity and for the first time on gender and sexual orientation, age, disability, and minority status, with the intent of assessing any gaps in inclusion within theWiFP Network. The questions were distributed to all WiFP volunteers and will be circulated on bi-yearly basis to identify change and areas of improvement. We acknowledge that racial and ethnic categories and the experiences of historically marginalized communities are not standard or formulaic, yet discrimination and prejudice often intersects in various facets of our lives and careers.
We intend for these reports to hold our staff and organization accountable to provide an environment that is safe, inclusive, and representative. In addition to the data the team collected on its own community, the team has also included an analysis of the demographics of its featured media contributors. As an organization, we are committed to work to represent each of our readers.
With these DEI efforts, Women in Foreign Policy hopes to contribute to worldwide efforts to dismantle racism, sexism, transphobia, classism and ableism within the foreign policy community.
